Jacob Ricketts

Ricketts is also spelled Rickeots, Rickeotts, Rickett, Rickets, Ricket, Rickel, Rickle, Rickels, and Rickles.

Maryland was established with religious freedom for Catholics. The colonial economy was based on tobacco cultivated by Africans who had been enslaved.

Jacob Ricketts was born about 1725 in Maryland. He was the son of Benjamin Ricketts.

When his father died he inherited the home plantation which was probably Rattlesnake Den. It was to go to his son, Robert, after his death. Robert also received

forty pounds currency Money of Maryland in the hands of my son Benjamin Ricketts for the purpose of schooling the son of Robert Ricketts.

Jacob Ricketts appeared in the Assessment of 1783 for Montgomery County, Maryland in the Upper Newfoundland or Seneca Hundred.

At the time of the 1790 census, Jacob was in Montgomery County, Maryland.
